Hunter Valley Holidays Travel Guide Information

Hunter Valley. New South Wales Australia
Just over 1 half hour’s drive north of Sydney is one of Australia’s premier winery destinations – Hunter Valley region.

Stretching from Merriwa and the upper Hunter Valley wine region in the north west – down to the beaches of Newcastle on the coast- the Hunter Valley has much more of interest to offer travellers to the Hunter Valley region, than 100+ famous winery’s and Cellar Door tours…
World Heritage listed – Barrington Tops National Park, high on the Great Dividing Range, offers excitement to walkers, campers and climbers.

Port Stephens on the coast is a blue water paradise, with great fishing, boating and swimming. There are also families of dolphins, frolicking in these calm blue waters and sandy beaches of the Port Stephens area. It is also an excellent point from where to watch migrating whales or to organize whale watching tours from the many operators in this area.

The Scone-Singleton area of the Hunter Valley region is well known thoroughbred horse breeding Mecca- some of the world’s best racehorses have been bred in this golden triangle of horse racing.
Newcastle is Australia’s second oldest city and was originally founded at a prison colony in 1804. Today it offers travellers great surfing beaches, mine tours, historical sites and a range of fine eateries for travellers.

But above all, the Hunter Valley region is best recognised as being Australia’s premier wine travel destinations. There are over 130 wineries in the Hunter Valley and it has proven to be an excellent travel destination for couples wanting a romantic weekend getaway or for families wanting a country holiday with the kids. There are many historical sites of interest, fine food restaurants and various entertainments.

If you are interested in a weekend or longer in the Hunter Valley, it is advisable to book your Hunter Valley accommodation or Cellar Door Winery tours well in advance of your arrival, as this region is a very popular travel destination.
