The Southern Highlands are a cool climate retreat with rambling homesteads and colonial mansions just 1/2 hours south west of Sydney. History is alive in places such as Berrima, a fine example of an 1830s Australian village.
In Bowral, where cricketer Sir Donald Bradman lived as a boy, cricket enthusiasts should not miss the Bradman Oval and Museum. Other towns include Mittagong, Moss Vale, Bundanoon and Robertson with their tea rooms, craft centres and antique shops.
Near Bundanoon, visitors can explore Wombeyan Caves, and Morton National Park and its waterfalls is just a short drive from Robertson. There are guesthouses and luxury resorts with country comforts such as fine food, garden and wilderness walks, golf and horse riding. It's popular to travel there via the South Coast and take the signposted turn off near Berry.
This region also takes in the beautiful coastline region of Wollongong through to Kiama. This stretch of coast is an easy drive south of Sydney and provides all the amenities, attractions and tourist services for the perfect weekend or relaxing week away from Sydney.
There is a good range of Caravan Parks, and camping areas for the budget and nature concious, while there is plenty of Bed & Breakfasts and small niche style accommodations and resorts to keep you comfortable and relaxed.
The Southern Highlands and coast region is a very beautiful area to spend some time away, and visitors are always impressed with the ease of the lifestyle and people in the region.
