Sydney Northern Beaches NSW

Northern Beaches, Sydney. New South Wales

The Northern Beaches in Sydney is a group of beach suburbs stretching from the tourist mecca of Manly all the way up to the friendly village of Palm Beach - about 40km in distance.

In this area, is Pittwater ,an ideal playground for those into yacht sailing, power boating or fishing. There are many pleasant and secluded bays on Pittwater through to the hawksebury, for families and friends to enjoy the fresh clean swimming and exploring the rocks for some famous Sydney Rock Oysters.

Water Taxis operate on Pittwater as well as a Ferry service to many of the island beaches located in Pittwater or Hawkesbury River.  You can also hire yachts and houseboats in Pittwater.
Manly is one of the gateways to the Northern Beaches and is accessible with a Sydney Ferry  from Circular Key. It has a range of quality surf shops and fashion outlets for tourist to peruse. There are also some tasty restaurants in Manly, and is the usual place most people on the northern beaches like to go out, as it has licensed clubs and hotels till late at night.

On the peninsula end of the northern beaches, you have some excellent beaches for all ages to come and enjoy. It seems like a country town area in the city, with its laid back lifestyle, characters and climate. There are some beautiful places in the area, such as Palm Beach, Whale Beach and Avalon. All offering relaxed sidewalk café style fare, with exclusive fashion and restaurants. And when you need accommodation in the Northern Beaches, you might want to book early as accommodation is particularly scarce. Especially accommodation in Avalon , Palm Beach and Whale Beach.

If you like to surf, Manly and Queenscliffe beaches of some excellent waves on good days. On the real big days, go round the corner to Fairy Bower of Dee Why Point or long reef bomby. On their day, you get excellent waves also at Whale Beach  (the wedge) Avalon, Newport and Mona Vale. And when the waves in Sydney get over 6’ you pretty much get it to yourself these days, as most in Sydney are too cautious to go out when its overhead. If you want to learn to surf, Manly Surf School has classes at Manly and “Kiddies Corner” in Palm Beach.

So if your in Sydney for any length of time, we recommend you visit Sydney’s Northern Beaches for a day-or more. You will be surprised.
