Brisbane Holidays & Travel Guide - Queensland

Welcome to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
Brisbane, the capital of Queensland is the third largest city in Australia and the gateway to the Gold and Sunshine Coasts. The population of 1.3 million is spread from the shores of Moreton Bay in the east up to the Brisbane River Valley to the foothills of the D'Aguilar Range.

Brisbane is the state capital city of Queensland. The city is centred along the Brisbane River, and its eastern suburbs line the shores of Moreton Bay. Brisbane is a culmination of modern architecture and ancient sandstone buildings and over the years has developed a cosmopolitan atmosphere, with its bustling cafes, an extensive cultural calendar and idyllic riverside walks.

For the cultural hub of Brisbane, The Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, are a must see as these galleries are devoted to contemporary Indigenous Australian art, one showcasing Queensland’s unique Indigenous art, as well as innovative and interactive programs just for kids in the Children’s Art Centre. Both of these architecturally acclaimed buildings are located at Southbank. Take in a play, opera, ballet or dozens of other performances at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Take in a show at the refurbished Conrad Treasury Casino, home to bars, restaurants, function rooms and nightly entertainment. The Tower Mill built in 1824 at Spring Hill is one of Brisbane's most significant and oldest heritage landmarks and one of only two surviving convict buildings in Brisbane. Take the river cat or a leisurely canoe ride down the Brisbane River for a relaxing and informative view of this diverse river system.

For the adventurous at heart, why not try a bridge climb of the Brisbane Story Bridge or a Hot Air Balloon Flight for a panoramic view of Brisbane. Or try your hand at Rock climbing or abseiling at Kangaroo Point. A drive to Brisbane’s popular Mt Coot-tha lookout, set amongst manicured gardens and nestled in natural bushland, will give you fantastic views of the whole of Brisbane City. Relax at Southbank and enjoy the grassy picnic spots, sandy beach and the many shops and eating places. Take a tour of the renowned XXXX Brewery and see how Brisbane’s famous brew is made.

For a genuine wildlife experience in lush rainforest gardens - discover a wide range of Australian, exotic and endangered animals at Alma Park Zoo or see the cuddly Koala’s at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. From June to October visitors can take in a Whale Watching Tour at Tangalooma and see these majestic animals on their annual migration from Antarctica to the Great Barrier Reef and beyond. And always a family favourite, every year, for ten days in August, the Ekka – where the country meets the city, is a hive of entertainment, fun and excitement for families.
