ARDROSSAN & DISTRICT HISTORICAL MUSEUM

This museum building is the old power house factory, once owned and operated by Clarence Smith. On display is a collection of farm implements along with the original drawings, catalogues, photographs and much more material connected with the factory. It also incorporates a general folk museum.

EDITHBURGH DISTRICT MUSEUM

This fascinating museum depicts the maritime history of Edithburgh. the history of the salt industry and early settlement of the district. It also boasts a unique flora reserve.

BANKING AND CURRENCY MUSEUM

This is Australia's only privately owned museum of this kind. The collection is displayed in a fine two- storeyed ex-Bank of South Australia building dating back from 1873. Included are collections of issued and proof coins, gold coins, foreign and Australian currency, notes with printing errors and more material of interest, such as banking memorabilia .

KADINA MUSEUM COMPLEX

This is an agricultural museum complex with an emphasis on the folk history of the district's pioneers, many of whom were German. The complex includes Matta House, a mine manager's residence built in 1863 and furnished with Victoriana. It incorporates the largest printing museum in the state; many of its machines are in working order. There are also displays of mining equipment, photographs and many other types of 11th century industrial and agricultural equipment. The property is owned and managed by The National Trust.

ST. JOHN'S ANGLICAN CHURCH

This gracious 19th century church was finished in 1876. It is noted for a series of stained glass windows, designed and made by top Adelaide artist Cedar Prest, depicting rural scenes.

MAITLAND MUSEUM

This is an agricultural and folk history museum spread over three buildings featuring photographs, maps and artefacts. The history of the district is traced from pre- European settlement through to the 20th century. Displays covering the schools of central Yorke Peninsula are housed in an old schoolhouse dating from 1878. The agricultural heritage of the district is explained with implements and photographs and looks at the use of the land. A special feature of this display is an early clover harvester.

BUTLER MEMORIAL
Local hero Captain Harry Butler's World War I feats are commemorated in this memorial. The hangar style building contains the famous World War I Bristol fighter aeroplane, the '"Red Devil", flown in France and Australia by Butler. It is believed to be the only one of its kind left in the world. Static displays reveal Butler's exploits and provide a detailed history of the recently refurbished monoplane.

JOLLY'S VINTAGE TRACTOR & ENGINE COLLECTION

This museum contains a working display of restored antique tractors, stationary engines and steam engines. Other items such as tools, spark plugs, kero boxes and enamel signs are also featured. Open by appointment.

NATIONAL TRUST MUSEUM

This museum displays World War I flying ace Harry Butler's memorabilia and historic records. General interest items include domestic appliances, crockery, furniture, photographs and paintings.

LOCAL & FAMILY HISTORY RESOURCE CENTRE

In the Moonta Mines School House, the Resource Centre has a comprehensive collection of local and family history, resource documents including local and state newspapers on microfilm. There's also a large display of old radios and related artefacts.

MINER'S COTTAGE & GARDEN

The National Trust Miner's Cottage is a typical Cornish cottage, built around 1870 from wattle and daub, mud bricks, clay and limestone, and is furnished in period style. The garden has been recreated in the style of the original cottage garden and the stick fence is characteristic of the mining era.

MOONTA MINIES METHODIST CHURCH

The Moonta Mines Chapel was built in 1865 and seats 1250 . It is noted for its cedar fittings and pipe organ with more than 600 pipes. Money from the State Heritage Fund has been used to restore the interior.

MOONTA MINES MUSEUM

This important museum is in the old school building. Built in 1878, the school enrolled more than 1,000 pupils each year at the peak of the mining era in the 1880s. Its many rooms display mine artefacts and relics from the district's many Cornish homes. Displays include photographs, lamps, clocks, needle and lacework, kitchen and laundry utensils, household items and furniture. Special displays are a mining room, school room, regalia of lodges and friendly societies and a large exhibit of local sports and recreation.

MOONTA MINES RAILWAY

This attraction takes visitors around the Wheal Moonta Mining site in a restored light gauge locomotive with carriages and ore trucks. The train passes the old mine reservoir, shafts, and ore sorting floors through a tunnel under Ryan's skimp heap and past large slime areas. At the wash and dry house signs have been erected showing how the area was worked and copper recovered.

PORT VICTORIA MARITIME MUSEUM

The maritime museum collection consists of many photographs of square rigger and other sailing ships that once called at this port, and includes relics recovered from the numerous shipwrecks that dot the coast.

WARDANG ISLAND
Wardang Island lies about eight kilometres off Port Victoria. Around it is a veritable graveyard of ships, with at least thirteen known wrecks in the area; eight have been located. You can now visit some on the Wardang Island Maritime Heritage Trail, an underwater trail along which plaques have been installed at the site of wrecks. A waterproof booklet is available from local shops and museums.

In the district's original school building, this museum contains many items of local social history.

WALLAROO NAUTICAL MUSEUM

This National Trust museum is divided into sections depicting 'Wallaroo's long and colourful history. The main building contains extensive displays of the famous copper smelting era (1860-1923). It was built in 1865 as the towns's first post office and contains displays of postal, telephone and municipal history. The maritime complex outlines the entire history of the port.
