the
Protection
of
our
fringing
reefs
Whitsundays
fringing
reefs
now have
extra
protection
from anchor
damage
with a
series
of marker
buoys
being
installed
at sensitive
sites.
Locations
targeted
have
high
conservation
value
and
are
currently
under
significant
anchoring
pressure.
The
Great
Barrier
Reef
Marine
Park
Authority,
Queensland
Department
of Environment
and
Heritage,
and
volunteer
group
the
Order
of Underwater
Coral
Heroes
are
surveying
sights
and
in certain
areas
marker
buoys
have
already
been
installed.
The
marker
buoys
mark
an area
within
the
bays
in which
you
are
not
allowed
to anchor.
For
people
boating
in the
Whitsundays
it is
easy
to remember
that
you
must
not
anchor
inshore
of the
marker
buoys.

in
length.

Two
dinghy
moorings
for
dinghies
up
to
6
metres
in
length.
Two
moorings
for
vessels
up
to
10
metres
in
length,
- In
Manta
Ray
Bay
a
person
must
not
moor
a
vessel
to
a
public
mooring
in
the
Special
Management
Area
for
more
than
2
hours
in
an
8
hour
period.
