enthusiastic
local
people.

has
been
transformed
into
a
Railway

exhibiting
the
fascinating
history
of
the
Yass
Tramway,
one
of
New
South
Wales'
most
unusual
railway
lines.

Michelago
Tourist
Railway
The
Michelago
Tourist
Railway
(MTR)
opened
on
April
26th,
1993,
and
operates
on
part
of
the
former
State
Rail
Authority
line
to
Bombala
in
southern
New
South
Wales.
Most
of
the
MTR
lies
within
New
South
Wales
(in
fact
the
line
is
the
border
between
the
ACT
and
NSW for
much
of
its
length).
The
Australian
Railway
Historical
Society
holds
a
lease
on
this
line
as
far
as
Michelago,
about
48
kilometres
(30
miles)
south
of
Canberra.
Since
October
1996,
the
Society
has
had
running
rights
between
Canberra
and
Queanbeyan,
which
has
meant
that
we
no
longer
require
the
services
of
State
Rail Authority
drivers,
guards
or
signalmen
to
operate
our
trains.
Our
qualified
members
can
now
crew
our
trains
in
and
out
of
Canberra
and
Queanbeyan
stations,
as
well
as
on
our
line
to
Michelago.
