The
Old
Mill
One
of
the
earliest
buildings
in
the
Swan
River
Colony,
the
foundation
stone
was
laid
by
the
first
Governor,
James
Stirling,
in
1835
for
the
designer-
owner
William
Shenton.
The
mill,
adjacent
miller's
cottage
and
grounds
are
furnished
with
relics
of
the pioneer
days.

The
Old
Observatory
Constructed
in
1897
on
Mount
Eliza,
the
Old
Observatory
is
a
supremely
elegant
building
which
at
one
time
served
as
the
astronomer's
residence.
The
Observatory
was
dismantled
in
the
1960s
and
the
telescope
was
moved
to
the
new
Observatory
at
Bickley.
The building
is
now
the
headquarters
of
the
Western
Australian
branch
of
the
National
Trust.

The
Barracks
Archway
was
once
part
of
a
large
military
barracks,
designed
by
Richard
Jewell
and
built
by
convict
labour
between
1863
and
1867
to
house
the
Enrolled
Pensioner
Guards

now
a
memorial
to
the
State's
early colonists.
