Harbour
Twice the

Sydney Harbour,
Darwin's

harbour
has sandy
beaches,
mangrove
tidal areas.

Harbour
cruises
are the

to explore
this fascinating
waterway.
One of the
main cruises,
Spirit of
Darwin,
operates
from Cullen
Bay, a prestigious
marina development

a tourist
attraction
by itself.
Botanic
Gardens
More than
a century
old, the
Darwin Botanic
Gardens
are a tranquil
expression
of the beauty
of the tropics.
The Gardens
have the
Southern
Hemisphere's
largest
array of
tropical
palms (about
400 species)
an orchid
farm, nursery,
rainforest,
waterfalls
and wetlands
flora.
Melville
and Bathurst
Islands
These islands
lie just
80 km north
of Darwin
and are
home to
the Tiwi
people,
an Aboriginal
group famous
for their
distinctive
art and
carving. Also located
on Bathurst
Island is
Barra Base.
It offers
fishermen
the opportunity
to catch
barramundi,
tuna, mackerel,
threadfin,
salmon and
more.
Territory
Wildlife
Park
Australia's
unique wildlife
is recognised
throughout
the world.
At the award
winning
Territory
Wildlife
Park there
are 400
hectares
of bushland
with open
plan natural
habitats.
It is home
to the familiar
as well
as the more
unusual
Territory
animals
such as
the Bilby.
Several
of the inhabitants
are rare
or endangered
in the wild.
A walk through
the aviary
and rainforest
is so tranquil,
you can't
help but
feel relaxed,
while the
spectacular
aquarium
and the
cool darkness
of the Nocturnal
House will
bring you
face to
face with
many of
the Territory's most elusive
creatures.
Ride the
open motorised
train. or
stroll along
the walking
trails.
Crocodiles
Jumping
crocodiles
are unique
to the Northern
Territory
- in a flash,
bullet-
like, they
leap from
the water
to seize
a dangling
morsel,
snap their
jaws and
disappear
again to
enjoy their
meal. You
can watch
all this
in safety,
only a few
feet from
the crocodiles,
cruising
aboard air-conditioned
river boats.
Darwin Crocodile
Farm is
another
entertaining
attraction
at feeding
time. The
sight of
big crocs
cruising
in for lunch
is unforgettable.
Australia's
first and
largest
crocodile
farm, it
is home
to over
7000 inhabitants.
As well
as the crocodiles
there is
plenty of
bird life
and a family
of buffalo.
