Broome - Western Australia
Established as a Pearling centre in the 1880’s, Broome has a multicultural mix of Aboriginal, Malay, Japanese and Chinese. Situated on the West Coast, Broome has a variety of good restaurants, bars, cafes. The aqua marine waters of the Indian Ocean are ideal for swimming and surfing and Game Fishing.
Broome’s deep cut gorges and dramatic cliffs make this an absolutely breathtaking area. The most popular time of year to visit Broome is the dry season (May – Oct). You may prefer the quieter months when it’s just the locals but remember many roads, tours and attractions are closed at this time of year. April is marine stinger season so not the best time of year for those seeking fun in the surf. Off the beaten track are many hidden waterfalls, gorges and waterways.
There’s a network of 4wd tracks through the National Parks. Tours supplying camping equipment food and a 4wd can be arranged. Accommodation ranges from luxury 5 star to camping on the beach. This area is rich in Aboriginal history. There is lots of magnificent ancient Aboriginal Rock Art throughout this area.
Remember this is crocodile country. There are crocodiles throughout saltwater, coastal water, freshwater and lagoons here in Broome – always check before entering the water.
