Back in the May of 1770, the famous explorer Captain James Cook landed in beautiful Bustard Bay, and you can just hear him proclaim to his men, as he stood there on the beach "What a brilliant discovery this little paradise is, there looks to be so many wonderful adventures to enjoy here, that it's going to be hard to up anchor and leave" And he's not far wrong there...

If fishing takes your fancy, there are plenty of inshore and offshore locations to cast your line, and mud crabbing is also a favorite in this region with the Queensland delicacy found in good supply between the months October to March around the mangroves.
There is also a wonderful range of protected areas - national parks for visitors to enjoy. Just across from Seventeen Seventy is Eurimbula National Park, which has a range of interesting terrain and unique vegitation, including large sand dunes, forests of Gum Trees, salt marshes and mangroves. Fishing and crabbing is excellent in the estuary which is teaming with marine life.
If you would like to visit a breeding ground for Loggerhead turtles, take the 8km drive south from Agnes Waters, which is really only suitable for 4WD, and you will discover the long and quiet beaches of Deepwater National Park, where turtles come to lay their eggs between November to February, with the hatchlings making their way back into the ocean from January through till April. A genuine sight for the kids to enjoy. Another beautiful national park with great rock and beach fishing.
This region also boast Round Hill National Park, where gorgeous sunsets dance on the water, which is unique to the eastern side of Australia.
